Our Curriculum

This section is focused on the curriculum and provides an overview of the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) Framework and the National Curriculum offer for children in Years 1 to 6.

Core and Foundation Subjects

By selecting the links below you will find more information on the different subjects including curriculum subject brochures. The brochures are compiled by each subject coordinator, the booklets show our school approach to each subject, as well as topics covered by each year group and photographs from curricular and extra curricular activities which take place.

The curriculum includes all the planned activities that the school organises in order to promote learning, personal growth and development.

All children benefit from a range of learning styles at Evenwood C of E Primary School including a differentiated curriculum, a range of learning materials, assessment procedures that emphasise pupils’ strengths and achievements, access to IT and computing, booster classes, interventions and a broad range of extra curricula activities. We ensure that all of our extra-curricular activities are adapted to meet the needs of all children. All our children have the opportunity to participate in school trips, clubs, sports teams and school committees.  Our curriculum also includes the ‘hidden curriculum’, or what our children learn from the way they are treated or expected to behave. The Rights Respecting School Award and use of Philosophy 4 Children approach demonstrates our commitment to every child’s social, emotional and behavioural development.

Evenwood C of E Primary School teaches children how to grow into positive, responsible people, who can work and co-operate with others whilst developing knowledge and skills, so that they achieve all that they can. We have been working hard to refresh our school approach and provision for pupils. We use a creative and thematic approach to learning that is mapped to the Primary National Curriculum to ensure comprehensive coverage of national expectations.  We believe children learn better when they are encouraged to use their imagination and apply their learning to engaging contexts. Our curriculum will provide lots of learning challenges throughout the academic year that will require children to solve problems, apply themselves creatively and express their knowledge and understanding effectively across the curriculum.

At Evenwood C of E Primary School,  we believe that children learn better when they are encouraged to use their imagination, be creative and apply their learning to engaging contexts.
